Tracy Rodriguez of Sparks High School is being recognized as the top Nevada League of Cities (NLC) Youth Award recipient.

Football scheduling in the high school ranks can be a tough task in northern Nevada, especially for smaller schools. That was indeed the case a year ago for all three local high schools.

One thing that has kept Larry Wilson in Sparks for 52 years is its hometown feel. It?s a quality he hopes to preserve, especially in Ward 1. ?Ward 1 could be the gem of the city: It has quaint, old-style homes and it could be the ?grand old lady,? ? he said.

After 27 years, the Sertoma Classic All-Star Football game is still going strong. High School kids have changed drastically over that span, but one thing has remained the same. High school football players view the Sertoma Classic as one of the highest honors.
